Last week, CJHS leadership students put on a charity week with loads of fun, raffles, and a bake sale.
The school started the week off with a raffle that had over 20 prizes. There were many generous donations. Just some included, 5 free frozen yogurt bowls from Menchies, 4 $50 Pita Way gift cards, and 18 holes of golf at Pine Knob Golf Course. Each raffle ticket was only 1 dollar each! (See a full list of prizes at the end of the article.)
Next, on Tuesday of charity week, the Leadership classes put on a bake sale. The leadership students baked treats and brought them in, including cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and rice krispies. They sold out of all the treats. Similar to the raffle tickets, each item was only 1 dollar.
We spoke with one of the Leadership teachers, Mrs. Galli, about the challenges they faced with the raffle.
“At first, when we were trying to find donors for our raffle, businesses were very hard to get a hold of. They would say no or simply not answer the phone. Some of our students felt frustrated and wanted to give, but they did not,” Galli said.
This shows us how life will not always be easy. When you come across tough things in life, you have to persevere through them.
Galli also told us how Leadership students overcame challenges, “The thing that helped us get donations the most was writing a script. When we called businesses, we would say the same thing every time, and it worked.”
Once one business donated, everyone else followed suit.
At the end of the day, where the proceeds go is what matters the most. The money raised went to the Matt Boczar Foundation, which is dedicated to removing financial barriers for student athletes within the Clarkston district.
When Galli counted the final total, it came to 1,500 dollars. Great job, CJHS students, parents, and staff!
