As the school year comes to an end on June 5th, the 9th graders prepare to make their change from freshmen to sophomores. Since 9th grade is in a smaller school with only the 8th grade as the other grade, this change is big and will emphasize their change from middle to high school. Some may feel excited, nervous, or confused as not many have been in high school yet, but let’s see how everyone is feeling.
Many students get nervous about not knowing their way around or not knowing the new people they’ll be around. But some are also excited and love the new adventures.
“I am excited to go to high school next year because I think I will get a lot more freedom in what I do. But I am scared just because I’m going to be with so many new people. I don’t know a lot about high school, but I go there for concerts and band practice so I know my way around the first floor a bit,” 9th grader Zee said. She expresses both the excitement and nervousness of transitioning from CJHS to CHS.
Even though some students may not be attending Clarkston High School, it’s still a transition going from a junior high into a high school as a high school is bigger and has more students.
“I’m excited, but also a bit nervous because of all the new people” 9th grader Cameron Schiffman said. He won’t be seen at Clarkston next year, but still carries with him the emotions of going to a new bigger school.
And we always have some people that aren’t truly scared at all or that’s what they say.
“I’m not scared and I’m excited,” 9th grader Zoey DeNio said. She is an outgoing person and has been around high school making her nerves a bit calmer than others.
We saw that as 5th graders coming out of elementary school and going into middle school that it can be hard going from a school you’re used to, to a new one. You’re meeting new people or maybe losing contact with people and it can get stressful. But remembering to be nice and inviting to people is important. Try and talk to people and get out of your comfort zone! We all share the same excitement and nervousness of going from one school to another and we hope to see each other next year!
