The Clarkston Gold Dance team performed strongly at their first competition and were confident. They placed 6 out of 7 in the pom division. The team was only .4 points away from 5th place and 4 points away from 4th.
The Clarkston Gold Dance team performed their pom routine on January 24th, 2026 at Rochester High School for their first competition. Although they didn’t place the highest, they still put a lot of effort into the performance.
“I was very proud of the team after the performance because we all put in our best effort and didn’t give up,” Dance team member Nadie Lafferty said.
Even though they didn’t snag a top spot this time, the Clarkston Gold Dance team felt they still did great. The close call to 5th and 4th place only made them feel better about their performance.
“We learned so much from this competition,” Dancer LJ Benson said. “We know what we need to work on to come back even stronger next time.”
Their shared experience and positive outlook promise better performances coming up.
The competition was a learning experience for the team. They recognized areas of the performance where they were strong and identified moves that needed improvement.
The team is now focused on improving their technique and timing as they prepare for future performances and competitions.
“The performance showed us what we can improve for the recital,” Dancer Addi Tereau said.
The following week at practice, they looked back at videos of the performance, acknowledging what they needed to improve and work on for later performances. Overall, the team was proud of themselves and looked on the positive side that they had people cheering them on and telling them they did great.
