Beyond the squeak of sneakers and the roar of the Friday night crowd, two athletic freshmen from the Clarkston Wolves JV girls basketball team share the true keys to their excellence on the court through unwavering growth mindsets and seamless teamwork.
Starting off with freshman Madison Scott, a current Shooting Guard on the JV Clarkston girls basketball team. Scott excels in both dribbling and defense, demonstrating her strongest abilities on the court. Scott’s ball-handling skills allow her to navigate through tight defenses with precision, while her defensive awareness helps her notice opponents’ moves and shut down plays effectively. Scott greatly utilizes her teamwork and communication skills throughout the court.
“Communication is important for all of us players out on the court; it helps us be there for each other and pass properly,” Scott said.
Scott’s effective communication and teamwork skills help her team progress not only through passing properly but also in working collectively.
Now, let’s shift gears to freshman Abby Beddick, a current Post on the JV Clarkston girls basketball team. Beddick excels at both agility and blocking, consistently demonstrating quick reactions on the court. Beddick’s strong coordination allows her to move swiftly, while her defensive awareness not only prevents opponents from scoring, but also helps her team regain possession through effective rebounding. Beddick persistently maintains a growth mindset on the court, even when challenges arise or things aren’t going her way.
“Whenever I miss my shots in a game, I like to think about the positives, like a good play or a good move I made. Thinking about the positives helps me benefit my team in other ways than just points,” Beddick said.
Beddick’s positive mentality throughout her plays benefits her as a player and opens up other opportunities to help her team rather than just shooting her shots. As the legendary Michael Jordan once said, “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.”
