This is an inside look at Leanne Scanlon and Zoe Philbrick’s softball lives. They both play competitive softball and share their favorite parts, along with the struggles that come with the love of the sport.
Philbrick shared how she got into softball, “I first started softball when I was 6, and there was never a point where I fell in love with the game; I have always loved it.”
Philbrick’s family members played softball, so she was born into the game. She also shared that her brother is her biggest role model. He has always supported her, and she enjoys his encouragement.
“My brother has influenced me because he’s gone through a lot of injuries and surgeries. I’ve had similar problems as well, so he has inspired me to keep going through hard times,” Philbrick said.
Family members are the best people to look up to. They stand by your side when going through hard times, cheer you on when you are succeeding, and they will always support you even in a bad game.
Then we talked to Scanlon, “I started playing softball when I was 10 years old, and I found a passion for it because out there on the field, I felt like I was at home.”
There is a time in your life when you know you are in the right place, for Scanlon, that was when she stepped onto the field. Home does not always have to be a house; it is where you feel most comfortable and confident. Family isn’t always by blood; it comes from teammates, and they will be the best thing that happened to you.
Scanlon shared that her biggest inspiration was her mom, “My mom has influenced me because she helped me get into it. When I was in rec ball, she told me I should try travel ball, and that’s when I found my passion for the game, and I realized I can play this and I’m pretty good at this.”
Sometimes you need a little push to really get you going, and even if it’s hard, you won’t regret it later. It is always good to take risks because they might change your life.
In any sport, there will always be someone who is your biggest fan, someone you can count on, and the loudest one in the stands. When you find something you love, keep it close, work hard, and don’t give up on your dreams.
