As the Clarkston boys Lacrosse team was founded in 2000, they have made history ever since. It began as a club sport, yet transformed into a full sanctioned high school sport. They have had numerous successful seasons, and appeared in state semi-finals. While the boys team makes strides, the girls team is right there with them. Also founded in 2000, the team has appeared in a Regional Final and have had many big wins, making history for the community.
While their amazing accomplishments through wins and success over the years shines, the most important part of the Clarkston Lacrosse team is their team philosophy. Written across their jerseys is “Ohana,” meaning family. This represents their team and program culture and shows their true values. Players are taught to uphold each other’s and the program’s standards on and off the field, and treat each other like their own family.
We could talk about the past seasons, yet the freshman players are ready for the future. Girls Lacrosse player Estelle Baker says she is “most excited to improve her skills on the high school level,” and Demi Webster is “most excited to play with girls from all different high school grades.” While freshman boys player Evan Naboychik is “most excited for playing with his friends.”
Coming up from middle school, it is obvious the program has already made an impact on the players’ lives. Baker says her favorite middle school lacrosse memory was “watching my sister score a goal while on the same team as me,” and Webster’s is “the first time I got a goal.”
For those who are not familiar with the sport, it features a hard rubber ball, while each of the 10 for boys, or 12 for girls, players carry a stick. It is the fastest game played on two feet, and the regulation playing time is 48 minutes. There are plenty of positions, as Estelle Baker plays midfielder, and she likes it because she “is involved in all of the action.” Meanwhile, Evan Naboychik plays “defense and he likes it because it is very aggressive.”
Lacrosse season is upon us, and we are looking for another major successful season from the Wolves, both girls and boys.
