Suzanne Collins, the author of the best selling dystopian trilogy, The Hunger Games and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, wrote a book on the character, Haymitch Abernathy, called Sunrise on the Reaping. The movie for Sunrise on the Reaping book is coming out November 20, 2026.
Haymitch Abernathy is a character in The Hunger Games, and is a victor for District 12 that helps mentor tributes in District 12 for when they play in the Hunger Games. In the original Hunger Games trilogy, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are the tributes for the 74th hunger games, and Haymitch mentors them. He helps Katniss and Peeta throughout the trilogy, and he becomes sort of a parental figure and a friend to Katniss and Peeta.
Sunrise on the Reaping takes place in the 50th Hunger Games. Every 25 years, the Capitol hosts the Quarter Quell, which is like the Hunger Games, just twice as many players. Haymitch gets chosen to play, and he has three other tributes for his district. He has to figure out how to survive the games, while allying with different people in different districts. He also has a plan to break the arena, so he can rebel against the gamemakers and the Capitol, so they wouldn’t be able to host anymore games. He gets closer to his allies in the arena, and they help work with him to rebel against the capitol. Will his plan work to prove that the districts’ children are not bait for the capitol to kill, or will something even worse that he wouldn’t even expect happen?
The movie has the main casting of Haymitch Abernathy, being played by Joseph Zada, Maysilee Donner, played by Mckenna Grace, Effie Trinket, played by Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta Mellark. Overall, the trailer looks really good, and so far, looks book accurate. I feel like the movie will be really good and I’m really excited to watch it.
