Michigan is a beautiful state with glorious sights to see around every corner. This gorgeous part of the United States attracts thousands of visitors every year who are drawn to its natural wonders. Some of the most popular tourist destinations in the area include Pictured Rocks, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Tahquamenon Falls, and Mackinac Island.
An out-of-this-world destination in the heart of Michigan everyone knows and loves is the unique essence of Mackinac Island. The island is only about 4.5 miles wide, but every inch is filled with beautiful colors, flowers, and natural Victorian charm, and is famous for its top-tier fudge shops on every corner and its eco-friendly car-free environment to preserve nature’s glow. Spending a weekend vacation on Mackinac Island means waking up to see the beautiful sunrise reflected over the clear Lake Huron waters, bike riding, or taking a horse-drawn carriage to breathtaking sights or historical sights. With Mackinac Island offering a small town vibe, the community is similar, as it has a warm, kind community that gives a family the perfect vacation spot.
A dream hideaway, unusual for Michigan, is the Pictured Rocks. The stunning view offers colorful cliffs, bright blue waters, and a forest filled with white birch trees. The Pictured Rocks border the south shore of the Upper Peninsula of Lake Superior. They can be viewed directly by boat or kayak tours, or by overlooking them from the land above. They offer the perfect change of scenery in our own state!
Another great location to explore the great outdoors of Michigan is the Sleeping Bear Dunes. It is known throughout Michigan due to its being the world’s largest freshwater dunes and bluffs, along with a breathtaking view of Lake Michigan. The bluffs are a great hiking challenge, as they rise 400 feet above the lake. Additionally, you can enjoy 2 undeveloped islands which can be visited by ferry. The Sleeping Bear Dunes can offer a great hiking experience with the reward of nature’s beauty.
Michigan’s Biggest waterfall, Tahquamenon Falls, stretches around 200 feet wide and 50 feet tall. The Amber waters’ average flow rate is 7,000 gallons per second (average annual mean). The beautiful state park is surrounded by various colorful trees, wildlife, and offers campsites, giving you the perfect peaceful spot to stay on your family getaway, whether it’s January for ice fishing or July for a lake day with the rentable kayaks offered at the 50,000-acre state park!
Overall, Michigan has beautiful nature in every corner, so explore your state’s sights! Michigan has so many diverse spots to choose from that even I was surprised to see what was in our very own state.
