Online media has affected us a lot ever since we invented it, sometimes in a good way and in others a bad way. Sometimes, it can even help with classes in school or at home.
“I think it has some negative effects. Certain content people can see can be really bad; some content is fine like if you’re just trying to watch something funny on the internet…You can see some really bad things at times, but as long as regulations are good, I think the internet is just great for what it is. But I mean, it’s impacted my social connections amazingly; I wouldn’t be able to talk to my friends nearly as much if we didn’t have the internet, so it’s great if actual real-life friends want to connect and play video games together and such,” 8th grade student Tristan Johnson said.
The internet is a really good place to learn and do other things on at times, but it isn’t always a positive thing because some people don’t like following rules of sites and even laws for their own twisted sense of enjoyment; sometimes it’s engaging in “diddy like” activities or getting someone else to do it for you. There are some good uses like being able to play with your friends even when you aren’t anywhere near them.
Sometimes, it even inspires people to do something they’ve never even tried before.
“It can probably affect their mental state due to things like Facebook existing. Also AI, because AI can falsely lead people on to believing things which can be pretty dangerous. It’s mostly improved social connections other than people who use it to hurt people just because you are able to meet up with people, which can prevent people from getting depressed,” a Clarkston Virtual student said.
For the most part, the internet can be a bad thing, but also a good thing, which might even be saving people from some huge mental disease.
It is mostly used for the good side of things, which most people are thankful for because if it wasn’t, most of us kids today wouldn’t be able to enjoy loads of stuff with friends when you can’t see them in person.
“I honestly think it hurts people’s brains in a way that it makes it so it’s harder to learn and it gives you a slower reaction time, or maybe a shorter attention span, so it makes learning harder. But honestly, it’s kind of impacted me positively, it has allowed me to connect with friends easier from being at home with separated parents,” 8th grade student James Anderson said.
In conclusion, the internet might be a bad place at points, but that’s only if you aren’t careful about what you’re doing, so make sure to check facts and take breaks whenever you’re on the internet.
