Recently, vibes have changed at Clarkston High School, and the focus is on raising funds and awareness for cancer, specifically Lymphoma, a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. CHS has been involved with the awareness of this disease since a student attending has been diagnosed. For Junior Jackson Miller, a member of the varsity football team, as well as looking to be a part of the CHS Leadership program, his plans changed when diagnosed. Although he has not been able to spend much time with the other leadership students, Amelia Floros (12) said, “He can get along with anyone and his personality brings people together.”
Leadership student Marlie Smith (11) describes Miller as “kind, brave, and honorable.” Floros said Miller was “outgoing, hard working, and resilient.”
The CHS students and community have been fundraising and even dedicated the theme of the football game to be lime green; they came up with money bucket runs and pamphlets with QR codes with instructions to donate to the lymphoma cause. CHS also had a dedicated spirit day for lime green and pink, and the lymphoma cause for Miller.
As he was diagnosed towards the beginning of last summer, Miller has been fighting with bravery and resilience since. He has continued to spread kindness and love to his peers.
All cancers, but specifically lymphoma for CHS, should be recognized. The importance of donating and supporting any person who is going through this awful disease should be emphasized, as students and staff members at Clarkston High School are doing.
The community will continue to support and fight alongside Miller along with spreading awareness to Lymphoma and all other types of cancers.
