The Clarkston Swim and Dive team has been around for decades. Ella Johnson, a senior at CHS, has been swimming throughout her whole life and her years of high school.
” I decided to pursue the swim and dive team because I have been swimming my whole life, and also because the girls on the team were all so welcoming and kind!” Johnson said.
The Clarkston Swim and Dive team is an encouraging group of girls who love to lift each other up. Although the work is hard, the girls we interviewed said it was worth it. While Johnson has been on the team, some of the highest points scored as a group were around 180-200 points.
“I would say that all the work was worth it because it is so rewarding at the end of the year when you win those rewards and can enjoy all those wins and hard work with the whole team,” Johnson said.
On the other side of the team are the divers, who help lead the team to victory by scoring high points on the diving board. Isabella Crisostomo Medellin is a sophomore at CHS. On top of diving, she is also a strong gymnast. Although she was a gymnast for 13 years, she wanted to try another sport that was somewhat like gymnastics.
“I decided to do diving because I realized that I didn’t really like gymnastics anymore, but I still wanted to do a sport that required flipping,” Medellin said.
Medellin thinks all of the work she puts in is worth it because she loves her teammates and loves this sport. She knows it’s not always about winning, but even getting third place or a high score can really make your day and highlight all of the hard work that you put in.
