Homecoming is a long-standing tradition of American high schools. This year, Clarkston High School’s homecoming will take place on October 4th. Students excitedly prepare for the day by planning outfits, photos, parties, and more.
Leading up to Homecoming, the school will celebrate with Spirit Week! Monday through Friday, the school will set a theme for each day, causing excitement in the halls and making students excitedly show their school spirit before the big event. Monday, the students will dress up in camouflage, Tuesday is jersey day, where students will wear their own jerseys or their favorite sports teams’ jerseys. On Wednesday, to promote breast cancer, we will have a pink-out day. Thursday will be a competition between the 8th and 9th grades, where 8th graders will wear gold and 9th graders will wear blue! Finally, on Friday, the students will be encouraged to wear neon outfits.
A big part of homecoming that always excites students is getting surprised with a homecoming sign. This is a great way for students to show appreciation for their date or even for their friends! The school even has a student-run homecoming instagram page where students send in their photos for them to be posted, and shared.
Along with many other excited Students, 9th grader Demi Webster said, “I’m excited to take pictures at Depot Park, hang out with my friends, go to my first school dance, and dance the night away!”
Many students attending homecoming are planning to take photos in downtown Clarkston at Depot Park, along with their friends or dates. Students prepare for the big day little by little.
“I ordered many dresses to try on, and I’m planning on getting my nails done and a spray tan,” 9th grader Stella Smith said.
When asked why she is excited for Homecoming, freshman Naomi Marchand said, “I’m looking forward to homecoming because it will give me lasting fun memories with my friends.”
Overall, Homecoming is a fantastic high school experience, allowing students to have a night of fun and bonding. Even the weeks leading up are exciting; getting outfits, plans, and dates ready is enjoyable. Memories that you make at Homecoming will last for years to come, and may even be one of the best experiences of your life.
