This past week, the Clarkston 8th grade Cheer team had their first game. The team is a very positive environment and the girls represent Clarkston Community Schools well by always smiling and having good energy. The game went well and the team enjoyed the first experience.
“I think everyone really knew their cheers. I think they really brought their energy which is great because I think that’s what cheer is all about,” team member Aubrey Caruso said.
The cheer team works so hard to show their support for Clarkston. Each game they give it their all and they really show how practice makes perfect. They cheer loudly together and project their cheers into the audience, spreading support.
“It takes a lot of practice and patience because our team’s motto is ‘we before me,’ and that means we are all one so we all need to stick together; if one person doesn’t get it, we cheer them on and try again until we all succeed,” cheerleader Lily Webster said.
Caruso mentioned why she thinks cheerleading is important, “I feel like the environment that it brings is really amazing and I feel like it has built-in sisters and honestly the sport is so fun; a lot of people don’t consider it as a sport but I do because I feel like it’s very important.”
Since the football team is doing well and winning games, the cheer girls really have the power to bring positivity in the stands.
“Something that brings the team together is probably hanging out with the whole team and having fun at practice and being around each other four days of the week,” Caruso said.
The cheer team has started off with a successful year and I’m sure there’s more to come; all of their games will be better than the last!
