Mrs. Dennis is an Honors English 8, Digital Journalism, and Yearbook teacher whose kindness and welcoming classroom environment make her stand out at CJHS. She has been teaching for 12 years, 11 years in Clarkston Community Schools and 1 year in Grand Blanc. Throughout her years, she taught History, English, Drama, Leadership, Yearbook, and Journalism, with English being her favorite.
“She’s very helpful, kind, and understanding,” 9th grader Alaina Platero said.
“She is chill, but you have to get your work done. Mrs. Dennis makes me feel welcome and is a safe person to talk to,” 8th grader Sophia May said.
There are some really good things that teachers get to experience, for example, Mrs. Dennis said, “I’d have to say that my favorite thing about teaching is the opportunity I’ve been given to form impactful connections with students. I absolutely love getting to know my students and watching them shine in their passions!”
But on the other hand, being a teacher has some downsides. Mrs. Dennis explained, “The thing I like least about teaching is waking up so early. Sometimes, I may only get 5 hours of sleep, so I definitely need to go to bed earlier.”
Mrs. Dennis enjoys all of her classes because each one is unique and inspiring. She loves when students share their voices, interests, and values, which brings special energy to the classroom. Her students always feel like part of her family, and she can’t imagine doing any other job.
