Mr. Breen is the art teacher at Clarkston Junior High School. He has been teaching here since 2019, and has taught Art in many schools in the Clarkston community.
“Mr. Breen’s art class will benefit me as a student because he knows how to communicate and teach us art the way we would think about it,” 8th grade student Makayla Drake said.
Mr. Breen’s class is a positive learning environment full of inspiration. Almost every surface is covered in art done by students: the ceiling, the cabinets, even the doors are covered in paintings and drawings. There are also many sculptures in the room made out of wire, packaging tape, and cardboard.
Mr. Breen is encouraging and brings out the creative mindset in his students.
“I love art class and my favorite project was probably landscape zentangle,” 8th grade student Piper Keith said.
A landscape zentangle is the current project in Mr. Breen’s art class. The students have to draw a chosen landscape and draw little designs throughout it.
In addition to just focusing on the finished product, Mr. Breen is all about the process and what it takes to get to the finished product. He takes time to describe the project and gives tips on how to make it better.
“I’m a big fan of the process; I enjoy the planning and process of creating,” Mr. Breen said.
Mr. Breen is an artist himself and has some of his art displayed in the classroom, such as a detailed sculpture of a moose head sculpted out of wire. Mr. Breen’s art inspires his students to have a creative mindset and express themselves with their art.
