The closed-door policy at CJHS has its pros and cons, but either way, it is not beneficial for our learning environment.
My first reason is that it causes a distraction and disruption in class. When students come back from the bathroom, they must knock on the door. This not only disrupts the classroom, but it also requires another student to come open the door. This is not good for learning or concentration. Student Jordan Carswell says, “Having to keep the door closed annoys me. I already struggle to concentrate enough, and the door being knocked on doesn’t help.” This shows the opinion of a real student of CJHS.
My second reason is that it’s not convenient. Every time a student goes to the bathroom and comes back, a student has to get up and walk to the door. This not only disrupts the class but also disrupts the students’ focus. I can speak from experience that I struggle to concentrate, and once I hear the door and lock, it throws me off.
Although I don’t think the closed-door policy is necessary, I agree that it can help keep people safe. I understand that it is the school’s responsibility to keep all of us safe, which I do respect; I just think this could be shown in different ways.
